How to use the Discount Calculator

  1. Enter the Original Price of the item.
  2. Enter the Discount (%) being offered — for example 30.
  3. Press Calculate Final Price — the sale price and savings appear instantly.

How discount maths works

A percentage discount reduces the price by that percentage of the original: Savings = Price × Discount ÷ 100, and you pay the rest. A ₹2,999 jacket at 30% off saves you ₹899.70 — final price ₹2,099.30.

Stacked discounts are not additive. “30% off, then an extra 10%” means you pay 70% × 90% = 63% of the original — a 37% total discount, not 40%. Sellers know most shoppers add the percentages; now you know better.

Shopping tricks worth knowing

“Buy 2 get 1 free” is a 33.3% discount per item, while “50% off the second item” is only 25% off the pair.

A flat ₹500 voucher beats a 10% code only when your cart is below ₹5,000 — above that, the percentage code wins. Quick check: 10% of your cart vs ₹500, whichever is bigger.

Discounts off inflated MRPs are theatre; only the final price at checkout matters. Compare final prices across stores, not the percentage signs.

Reading discounts like a professional

Indian retail runs on MRP — a printed ceiling price that can sit far above the street price. A 70% off MRP tag can still leave margin for the seller. The genuine question is not the discount percentage but the prevailing market price, which comparison apps reveal in seconds. Use this calculator for the arithmetic, use price history for the truth.

Successive discounts multiply: 20% off then an extra 10% is 28% off, and a stack of 10%+10%+10% is only 27.1%. Buy-one-get-one offers are also multiplicative — on two equal items it is 50% per item, but if prices differ you get the cheaper one free, which is far less than half on average.

Discounts, GST and bills

GST is charged on the price you actually pay after the discount, not on MRP — so on a 2,000 rupee item at 18% GST with a 25% discount, GST applies on 1,500 (270 rupees). If a bill shows GST computed on pre-discount amounts, question it.

Combo offers sometimes allocate the discount across items (buy shampoo plus conditioner for 499) which affects returns: refund each item at its allocated price, not its sticker price. And remember that loyalty points redeemed usually still attract GST on the underlying transaction — the fine print is where the real arithmetic lives.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate a discount price?
Multiply the price by the discount percentage and subtract: for 25% off ₹1,200, the discount is ₹300 and you pay ₹900. Or multiply the price by 0.75 directly.
What is the formula for discount?
Savings = Original Price × Discount ÷ 100; Final Price = Original Price − Savings.
How do I calculate two discounts together?
Multiply what you pay after each: after 20% you pay 80%; another 10% off means 0.80 × 0.90 = 0.72 — a 28% total discount.
Can I use this for GST-inclusive prices?
Yes — enter any price and any percentage. For removing GST specifically, our GST calculator also shows the CGST/SGST split.
Is this discount calculator free?
Yes — free, unlimited, private. Prices never leave your browser.
