How to use the Random Number Generator

  1. Set the Minimum and Maximum of your range — for example 1 to 100.
  2. Choose How Many Numbers you want (1 to 100).
  3. Press Generate Numbers — repeat for a fresh draw every time.

How random is it?

This generator uses your browser's built-in random number functions, which are perfectly suitable for giveaways, lucky draws, classroom picks, games and raffles — anywhere the goal is unpredictability to humans.

For cryptographic uses such as passwords and encryption keys, use a dedicated password generator with a cryptographic random source instead — general browser randomness is not certified for that purpose.

Popular ways people use it

Giveaways and lucky draws: number your participants, generate the winning number live — fair and transparent.

Games and classrooms: dice alternative, bingo caller, random student picker, random team assignment.

Sampling and audits: pick which invoice numbers or rows to check from a numbered list.

Decisions: settle “you pick / no you pick” debates with a number between 1 and 2.

How computer randomness works

Ordinary generators (including this one's underlying mechanism) are pseudo-random: a deterministic formula started from a seed produces a sequence that looks unpredictable but would repeat if you replayed the same seed. For games, lucky draws, picking samples and classroom use, that quality is completely adequate.

For cryptography, gambling machines and certified lotteries, pseudo-randomness is not enough — those systems use cryptographically secure generators or physical entropy sources (thermal noise, atmospheric radio noise, or the small quantum unpredictability of photon detection). The principle to remember: the more money rides on the randomness, the stronger the source it needs.

Randomness in real life

Randomisation is quietly everywhere: clinical trials randomly assign patients to treatment and control groups, auditors randomly sample invoices, spam filters randomly hold out test data, and lucky draws need provably fair draws. Random assignment is what makes the comparison fair — it cancels out hidden biases.

One human bias deserves a warning: the gambler's fallacy. After five coin flips land heads, tails is not due — the coin has no memory, and the next flip is still 50/50. A fair generator has no memory either, which is precisely why each draw above is independent of the ones before it.

Frequently asked questions

Can the same number appear twice?
Yes — each number is drawn independently, like rolling a die repeatedly. For unique draws, generate one at a time and skip repeats, or rerun.
How do I pick a giveaway winner fairly?
Number the entries, set the range to match, and generate one number live on stream or in front of witnesses. Transparency beats trust.
Does this work like a lottery machine?
It approximates one for casual purposes. Lotteries use certified hardware draws; for office raffles this is plenty.
What is the biggest range I can use?
Anything from very large negatives to very large numbers — JavaScript handles integers up to 9,007,199,254,740,991 safely.
Is this random number generator free?
Yes — free, unlimited, and no data is sent anywhere.
