Dukan pe jaane se pehle hisaab karo โ gold rate + making charges + wastage + GST milake final price kitna hona chahiye. Shop wale ka quote isse compare karo.
Making charges are the labour cost for designing and crafting the jewellery. They are usually a percentage of the metal value (commonly 8% to 15%) or a flat rate per gram.
Wastage is an old jeweller practice that charges for the gold "lost" during crafting. In organised showrooms wastage is often zero; in many local shops it is still charged at 5% to 12%. Ask clearly whether wastage is being charged, and negotiate it โ a lower wastage directly reduces your final price.
GST on jewellery is 3% on the total (metal + making + wastage). It is compulsory and printed on every bill.
Compare the total, not just the gold rate โ a shop with a lower rate but 18% making charges can be more expensive than a shop with a slightly higher rate and 8% making. Ask for the making charge percentage in writing before you choose a design. Check whether the design can be bought at a lower making charge in a lighter version. Always insist on a proper bill with purity (hallmark), weight and the full breakup โ this protects you if you ever resell.
