How to use the Temperature Converter

  1. Enter the temperature value.
  2. Choose its unit — °C, °F or K.
  3. All three scales update instantly as you type.

The conversion formulas

Celsius to Fahrenheit: multiply by 9/5 and add 32. Fahrenheit to Celsius: subtract 32 and multiply by 5/9. Kelvin is Celsius plus 273.15 — the same size degree, just a different zero point.

Examples: 37 °C = 98.6 °F (normal body temperature); 100 °F = 37.8 °C (a fever); −40 is the magic point where Celsius and Fahrenheit are equal.

India uses Celsius for weather and cooking, while US recipes and appliances often use Fahrenheit — this converter bridges the gap instantly.

The three scales, precisely

Anders Celsius (1742) anchored his scale to water: 0 degrees at freezing, 100 at boiling. Daniel Fahrenheit (1724) set his scale earlier with different anchors, putting water's freeze at 32 and boil at 212. Lord Kelvin then redefined the scale from physics itself: 0 kelvin is absolute zero, the point of zero thermal energy, and each kelvin is exactly one Celsius degree in size.

The conversions are exact: C to F is F = C x 9/5 + 32, F to C is C = (F - 32) x 5/9, and K = C + 273.15. Note that -40 is the magical point where Celsius and Fahrenheit agree — the one temperature you never need to convert.

Reference points for daily life

A few anchors make all temperatures meaningful: comfortable room temperature is 20-25 degrees C, a refrigerator runs 3-5 degrees C, human fever starts around 38 degrees C (normal body temperature is 37 degrees C, about 98.6 degrees F), Indian summer heat waves cross 45 degrees C, and water boils at 100 degrees C at sea level — but only about 90 degrees C in high-altitude cities like Leh, which is why cooking times change in the hills.

India uses Celsius everywhere officially, but American recipes, oven manuals, and weather apps from the US still speak Fahrenheit — 350 F for baking, 70 F for a pleasant day. This converter exists precisely so those numbers stop being riddles.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert Celsius to Fahrenheit?
Multiply the Celsius value by 9/5 and add 32. Example: 25 × 1.8 + 32 = 77 °F.
How do I convert Fahrenheit to Celsius?
Subtract 32 and multiply by 5/9. Example: (98.6 − 32) × 5/9 = 37 °C.
What is Kelvin used for?
Science and engineering. Kelvin starts at absolute zero (−273.15 °C), the theoretical point where molecular motion stops.
What is a fever in Fahrenheit?
100.4 °F (38 °C) and above is generally considered a fever; 103 °F (39.4 °C) is high — seek medical advice.
Is this temperature converter free?
Yes — free, instant, private.
